Former Georgia Bulldog WR transfers to Memphis

A well-traveled Georgia football WR goes to his third team in three years.

Former Georgia Bulldogs and Purdue Boilermakers wide receiver CJ Smith announced his intent to transfer to the Memphis Tigers. Smith will suit up for his third team in three years.

Smith was a three-star recruit when he committed to Georgia in 2022. In the 2023 season with Georgia, Smith totaled 116 yards on six receptions. After the season, he entered the transfer portal and transferred to Purdue with two other Bulldogs: Nyland Green and De’Nylon Morrissette.

Unfortunately, the Purdue Boilermakers were a disaster, ending the season 1-11. Smith totaled 69 yards on six receptions. After a disappointing season,  Smith is transferring again. He announced his plans to enter the transfer portal on the same day as Nyland Green.

Memphis is a perfect place for Smith to receive touches. All three of its top wide receivers (along with its starting tight end) are seniors. The Tigers have a few holdovers and transfers, such as former Louisville Cardinal Jadon Thompson, to compete with Smith on the depth chart.
