Former Gator Emory Jones transferring to this Pac-12 school

Emory Jones has found himself a new home and we wish nothing but the best to him.

Florida football saw its primary starting quarterback from the 2021 campaign [autotag]Emory Jones[/autotag] attempt to exit the program through the transfer portal twice these past several months and it appears that he has finally found a new home with the Arizona State Sun Devils to continue his collegiate career. The redshirt junior has two years of eligibility remaining thanks to the NCAA’s blanket waiver for the 2020 COVID season that gave student-athletes an extra year to play and is looking to capitalize on that additional time.

Originally entering the portal back in December, Jones rescinded his decision in March, when he made a 180-degree turn and fully committed to Florida. A few days later, he flipped the tables once again, announcing his intent to find greener pastures to play football while remaining at UF through the spring semester to become a Gator graduate.

Head coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] had the following to say about Jones.

“Emory has conducted himself with nothing but class and selflessness. It is not surprising that he has earned the respect of his teammates, coaches and this entire organization. I am proud of him for everything he’s accomplished and for his commitment to complete his degree this spring. He is a young man with a bright future and I wish him nothing but the best.”

Jones threw for 2,734 yards and 19 touchdowns while rushing for 758 yards and four scores over 13 games last season after playing second fiddle for his first three years to [autotag]Feleipe Franks[/autotag] and [autotag]Kyle Trask[/autotag]. Redshirt freshman [autotag]Anthony Richardson[/autotag], who is expected to take the helm in 2022, put a great deal of pressure on him from the backup position, putting up moments of brilliance that often outshone Jones’ mediocre performances.
