As Jedd Fisch continues to search the transfer portal for upgrades across the roster, his coaching staff looks ready to take a risk one of the most talented players looking for a new home. Former five-star wide receiver Johntay Cook, who has played the last two seasons with the Texas Longhorns, is set to take an official visit to Washington over the weekend according to 247Sports’ Mike Roach.
Cook, a 6-foot, 185-pound prospect was ranked as the nation’s No. 29 overall prospect and No. 3 wide receiver in the 2023 class by the 247Sports Composite, and played two seasons for the Longhorns, tallying 16 catches for 273 yards, an average of 17.1 yards per catch, and 2 touchdowns.
However, in what was called a mutual decision by Cook and the coaching staff, he chose to leave the team in November.
“We have nothing but respect for him and his family,” coach Steve Sarkisian said at the time. “We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
Cook is expected to visit Florida on Thursday before heading up to Washington over the weekend. After the departure of seniors Giles Jackson and Jeremiah Hunter, who both used their final seasons of eligibility in 2024, Fisch appears to be looking to bring in one experienced receiver to compliment the five freshmen that signed with the 2025 class.
A promising athlete with plenty of upside, Cook would be a very intriguing fit in Fisch’s offense if he chooses to commit to Washington.
