One of the most passionate coaches Colorado has had in recent years, former Buffs assistant Darrin Chiaverini announced Monday that he accepted the head coaching job at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, California.
Chiaverini, a Buffaloes wide receiver in the late 1990s who later played for three different NFL teams, joined Colorado’s staff in 2016 and held multiple roles before being relieved of his offensive coordinator duties in 2021. He spent the 2022 season as an analyst for UCLA.
The Chaffey Panthers finished 2-8 (0-5 National Central Conference) last season.
BuffZone’s Brian Howell caught up with Chiaverini to discuss his new opportunity at the JUCO level.
“This allows me to build a program the way I want to build a program,” Chiaverini told BuffZone. “This allows me to run the type of offense that I want to run and not have someone tell me what I can and can’t do. That’s why I was really excited about this opportunity. Not only do I get to become a head coach and dive into those challenges, but also I’ve never once in my college career had the opportunity to run the offense I want to run. I’ve always been dictated by other people and that won’t be the case now.”
Life and career update: Proud to announce that I’ve accepted the Head Coaching Position @chaffeycollege !! Thank you to President Dr. Shannon, AD Dr. Timi Brown and the selection committee for this opportunity! Excited to build a special program!! Go Panthers!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 pic.twitter.com/rfALLeK5T7
