One of the biggest breakouts in the NFL last season, first time pro bowler Hunter Renfrow should be in for a massive payday this offseason whether it’s an extension with the Raiders or in free agency.
Though slot receiver isn’t the most extravagant position on the field, the position is crucial for many offenses as security blanket for your quarterback. Historically, it’s not a position that pays people like a superstar. However, Renfrow has a good chance of breaking the mold, such as Keenan Allen, who will make an average of $19.5 million over his next three seasons with the Chargers.
The big question here is, will it be with the Raiders? Sure, the signing Devante Adams won’t affect Renfrow’s starting role in the slot. The one thing it almost certainly will do is affect his production. For years, Adams has been one of the league leaders in target share, and he will more than likely continue to command an extreme target share playing with Derek Carr.
We should expect Renfrow’s numbers to come down from his breakout year. 103 catches for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns doesn’t seem like it will be in the cards for Renfrow this season. I doubt this will significantly affect the contract he signs next season, just whether or not it will be with the Raiders.
