Former Chiefs players among top performers in XFL Week 1

Keep an eye on some of these XFL standouts who were formerly with the Kansas City Chiefs.

As we gear up for Week 2 of the XFL’s 2020 relaunch, we’re taking a look back at some of the top performers from Week 1.

Your Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs have several former players appearing in this league. You can find the full list of those players here. Some of those players were among the top performers in Week 1 of the XFL. Here’s a look at the stats from those players after the first week of XFL play.

  • New York Guardians QB Matt McGloin: 15-for-29 182 yards and one touchdown.
  • Los Angeles Wildcats WR Nelson Spruce: 11 receptions for 103 yards.
  • DC Defenders WR Rashad Ross: Two receptions for 53 yards and one touchdown.
  • Tampa Bay Vipers WR Jalen Tolliver: Three receptions for 47 yards.
  • New York Guardians LB D’Juan Hines: Seven tackles, two passes defended and one forced fumble
  • DC Defenders EDGE Jonathan Massaquoi: Three tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack.
  • New York Guardians DB Andrew Soroh: Two tackles, one QB hit, one interception and one pass defended.

Why is it important to keep tabs on some of these standouts who were formerly with the Chiefs? Kansas City was the last NFL stop for several players such as Soroh, Hines, Massaquoi, Tolliver and McGloin. Some of these players could be in line for NFL opportunities following the XFL season and perhaps even in Kansas City.

Back when the AAF folded, the Chiefs looked back to a standout player in DB Keith Reaser, who was with Kansas City in 2017. He was signed to a one-year deal but suffered a season-ending injury ahead of the 2019 season. Don’t put it past Brett Veach and the Chiefs’ front office to take a look at the players in the XFL, especially those who play at a spot viewed as a position of need.
