Former Chicago Bulls player Craig Hodges said he developed his sense of social awareness while growing up in Chicago Heights. He was never afraid to use his voice to further causes important to him, even if it meant a premature end to his NBA career at age 32. His time playing with the Bulls ended after he wore a dashiki, a colorful African garment, to the White House after the 1992 NBA finals. Hodges said no other team would offer him a contract, even though he was a proven 3-point shooter.
