The Arizona Cardinals moved on from kicker Zane Gonzalez in the offseason. He was set to be a free agent and they actually released him before free agency and then signed Matt Prater.
Gonzalez has since gone unsigned but could possibly end up facing the Cardinals.
According to the NFL transaction report on Wednesday, Gonzalez had a tryout with the Tennessee Titans, the Cardinals’ Week 1 opponent this season.
Tennessee has kicker issues. The two kickers on their roster, Tucker McCann and Blake Haubeil, have never kicked in the NFL. Both have struggled early in training camp.
Gonzalez was both solid and frustrating in his three seasons for the Cardinals. Overall, he made 81.8% of his field goals but he missed six field goals last season, including four between 40 and 49 yards. He missed a game-winning kick against the New England Patriots, which ultimately cost the Cardinals a postseason berth, and a game-tying field goal against the Miami Dolphins.
If the Titans sign Gonzalez and he makes the roster, it would add a level of intrigue in an important early-season matchup.
