Former Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Steve Wilks has moved back to the college coaching ranks. Wilks is the new defensive coordinator at the University of Missouri.
The 51-year-old Wilks ran the Browns defense in 2019 under head coach Freddie Kitchens. The unit did not play particularly well, finishing in 20th in scoring defense and 22nd in yardage allowed. He was not retained when the Browns changed staffs after the season.
Wilks did not coach in 2020. Prior to leading the Browns defense, Wilks had one season as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. He hasn’t coached in college since the 2005 season.
