Former Boston point guard Isaiah Thomas working out with Mavs in search of an NBA home

The former King in the Fourth might yet have a chance at playing his way onto an NBA roster.

The dream of returning to the NBA is evidently not over just yet for former Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas despite seeing a potential landing spot with the Los Angeles Lakers dry up after fellow Boston alumnus Rajon Rondo signed with Los Angeles.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that Thomas, Monta Ellis, and Lance Stephenson all worked out with the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, with IT in particular appearing “to be in great shape … as he works to make an NBA return” according to the NBA insider. The former King in the Fourth last played with the New Orleans Pelicans in April 2021.

Thomas played a trio of contests close to the end of last season but has since had difficulty latching on to a team despite playing well on the surgically repaired hip that put his NBA career in jeopardy in 2017.

Hopefully this time he makes the cut — the fan-favorite floor general has plenty of people pulling for him to get one more shot at proving he can help a team win.
