Former Bengals WR takes home an Oscar

Matthew Cherry won an Oscar for his animated short.

Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Matthew Cherry took home an Oscar over the weekend for “Hair Love,” voted the best animated short.

Cherry, who had a stint on Cincinnati’s main roster back in 2004, wrote and directed the film. He went undrafted and spent time with a few different teams, notably getting the promotion to the main roster after a stint on the practice squad.

After winning the award, Cherry took to social media to share what was supposed to be his full acceptance speech.

Cherry dedicated the award to Kobe Bryant, who won the best animated short in 2018 for “Dear Basketball.”

The Bengals congratulated Cherry on his feat via social media.
