Here’s a fun note about former Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert.

Former Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert might not play for the team anymore, but it’s worth remembering the apex of his time there.

Most Bengals fans know that was 2015, where Eifert stayed healthy and fully realized his potential, catching 13 touchdowns in as many games.

In a fun retrospective by Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders, Eifert’s efforts there registered as the seventh-best season by a tight end of the last decade:

“7. Tyler Eifert, 2015 Bengals (247 DYAR)
Eifert has played at least 10 games for just the third time in 2019, but he’s a shadow of the player he was when he had a phenomenal 2015 season. That version of Eifert scored 13 touchdowns in just 13 games, on 52 catches for 615 yards with a 70% catch rate.”

The hope from there was Eifert was just getting started as one of the game’s top tight ends. Injuries said otherwise, as he played in just eight, two and four games over the next three seasons. He played all 16 last year but in a minimal role before going on to join the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency.

Cincinnati has moved on as well, hoping veteran C.J. Uzomah can lead the way and prospect Drew Sample can be a reliable big-play threat for the future.
