A former Auburn football player showed out in his first NFL start on Sunday night.
Raiders quarterback [autotag]Jarrett Stidham[/autotag], who is playing in relief of quarterback Derek Carr, had an impressive game in his first NFL start against the San Francisco 49ers. The Raiders didn’t get the win, but Stidham put up 399 total yards and threw three touchdowns in the effort.
Stidham got along particularly well with Raiders wideout Davante Adams, connecting with him for two touchdowns and 153 receiving yards on the day. His first touchdown came on a 24-yard strike to tight end Darren Waller, and the Raiders stayed in the game until overtime when a Robbie Gould field goal gave Stidham and Las Vegas a loss on New Year’s Day.
Mistakes were to be expected, though, and Stidham wasn’t free of them. He also threw two interceptions on the day, one of them coming in overtime on a deep ball intended for Adams on the opening drive. Despite that, a 68 percent completion rate and the three touchdowns he threw will have him confident heading into his next start in the team’s last game of the season against the Chiefs.
