A Natural State native an former administrator at the University of Arkansas will be the next person to run the College Football Playoff.

Byron Hatch was with the Razorbacks from 2012-2015 with athletic director Jeff Long. At Arkansas, Hatch was the associate athletic director for business. He later went to work for the SEC, where he is now leaving to become the College Football Playoff’s Chief Operating Officer.

As COO of the CFP, Hatch, a graduate of Central Arkansas and Little Rock law school, will oversee all the operations of the title game.

“Like a lot of kids, I grew up adoring the Razorbacks,” Hatch told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. “I always thought that one day I was going to be a Razorback football or basketball player.”

Hatch officially takes over the capacity later in January, so he wasn’t in an official capacity for Monday’s 33-18 Georgia win. Instead, he will run the show for January 9, 2023.

“‘Find something you love to do, and you never work a day in your life?’ Hatch said. “That’s right.”
