Former Alabama RB Najee Harris named team captain for Steelers

The Steelers named former Alabama running back Najee Harris as one of their five captains on Monday.

On Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers named former Alabama running back Najee Harris as one of the team’s five captains. The other four captains were Cam Heyward, T.J. Watt, Miles Killebrew and Mitch Trubisky. Harris was rewarded by the organization for his stellar rookie season.

Harris spent four seasons at Alabama. He is now Alabama’s all-time leader for total career touchdowns with 57. Along with that, he also won the Doak Walker Award which recognizes the nation’s most outstanding running back. Harris was named an All-American multiple times as well by numerous different voters.

Altogether, Harris accounted for 4,624 yards from scrimmage (3,843 rushing yards and 781 receiving yards). After his senior season, Harris entered the 2021 NFL draft. He was drafted in the first round by the Steelers.

As a rookie, he had 307 carries for 1,200 yards and seven touchdowns. Harris was also dynamic through the air as he hauled in 74 receptions for 467 yards and three touchdowns. One statistic does stand out, however. That is the fact that Harris only fumbled once all season. Now, he will look to take his career to the next level after being named a team captain entering his second season with the Steelers organization.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Harris’ career as well as other former Alabama players in the NFL.
