Former Alabama pitcher David Robertson was traded from the Chicago Cubs to the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. The news was reported by Jeff Passan of ESPN. It will be the second time that Robertson has played for the Phillies. He was last with the organization in 2019.
Robertson finished his Alabama career after two seasons with a 12-8 record and a 2.97 ERA. He was also named an All-American after his freshman season. While doing so, he also recorded the most strikeouts by a freshman pitcher in college baseball with 105. After his sophomore season in Tuscaloosa, he entered the MLB draft. He was drafted in the 17th round by the New York Yankees.
In his professional career, Robertson has a 56-33 record with a 2.89 ERA over 14 years in the MLB. He has played for five different teams in his MLB career. The native of Birmingham, Alabama has also spent time with the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays.
On the final day of the MLB trade deadline, Robertson was traded to the Phillies for minor league prospect Ben Brown. He will now join a Phillies squad that is looking to make a run as a potential wild card team.
