Former Alabama baseball standout makes MLB debut

The former Alabama standout becomes the latest Crimson Tide player in the MLB.

A former standout outfielder for the Alabama Crimson Tide, Tyler Gentry has been called-up by the Kansas City Royals to make his MLB debut.

That debut came Sunday afternoon for Kansas City, where Gentry made only one at-bat for the Royals in which he did not get on base.

Selected by Kansas City in the third round of the 2020 MLB, Gentry spent a total of two seasons from the Crimson Tide from 2019-20 in which he ranked among Alabama’s top hitters both seasons. Over that span, Gentry slashed a combined .335/.420/.594 with 17 HR, 63 RBI, and nine SB across 73 games prior to being selected in the 2020 MLB draft.

The Royals No. 15 prospect according to MLB, Gentry has spent each of the last two seasons in Triple-A of the Kansas City organization, which includes 105 games this year. Across those 105 games, the outfielder has slashed .256/.346/.429 with 13 HR, 54 RBI, and five SB.

Gentry now joins Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher David Robertson as the lone former Alabama baseball players who are currently playing the MLB.
