The Houston Texans are loading up on quarterbacks this offseason, and now have added former 49ers quarterback Jeff Driskel to their deep QB roster.

Driskel, 28, was selected in the sixth round of the 2016 draft by the 49ers, but didn’t make the club out of camp. He was scooped up by the Bengals where he started five games in 2018, going 1-4 while tossing six touchdowns and only two interceptions.

The Lions were his next stop. He started three games for them and lost them all before moving onto the Broncos last season where he lost his lone start.

San Francisco probably isn’t too broken up about letting the former Louisiana Tech star get away. He’s 1-8 as a starter with a 58.6 percent completion rate, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions for his career.

While he wasn’t effective with the 49ers, Driskel pioneered a bit of uniform fashion for San Francisco. He wore his sleeves cut in such a way that the stripes on the sleeve were all even rather than tapering down into the cut. It was revolutionary stuff from the sixth-round pick.

Now he’ll get a chance in Houston to compete with Tyrod Taylor, Davis Mills and Ryan Finley if Deshaun Watson winds up missing the season.
