The Houston Texans were a little bit of a mess when DeMeco Ryans took over the head coaching job this offseason. He’s off to a strong start with his new club though thanks to a pair of picks in the top three of this year’s draft.
Houston selected No. 2 overall and took Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud. Then they moved up from No. 12 to No. 3 to pick up Alabama defensive end Will Anderson, widely considered the top defensive player in the class.
While they did give up significant capital in that move up from No. 12 to No. 3, including No. 33 this year and a first-round pick next year, they established foundational pieces on both sides of the ball.
They have a QB they can feel good about developing in new offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik’s offense, and they have a blue chip defensive end prospect to spearhead their defensive front.
49ers defensive lineman Arik Armstead was fired up for his old defensive coordinator:

Ryans was an integral piece of San Francisco’s coaching staff after joining the club in 2017, so it’s good to see him get a strong foundation in his first head coaching gig.
