Introduced at Mid-Ohio SportsCar Course in June and in the middle of its inaugural season, the Mustang Challenge is well into preparations for its second, with Ford Performance releasing the 2025 schedule for the IMSA-sanctioned single-make series based on the Ford Mustang Dark Horse R on Friday.
Not only will the championship start earlier, in March at Sebring International Raceway accompanying the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours, the schedule is growing to six rounds and 12 races, plus the addition of the non-points Invitational round at Circuit de la Sarthe in support of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The 2025 Mustang Challenge season features three new U.S. circuits — Sebring, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and VIRginia International Raceway. Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen International and Indianapolis Motor Speedway, featured in the 2024 schedule, were not included in the announcement. The venue for the final round is yet to be announced.
Each round announced so far, other than the Le Mans Invitational and a repeat appearance at Circuit of The Americas in support of the World Endurance Championship, will run with the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
