The Football Writers Association of America and the National Football Foundation team up every season to conduct the Super 16 Poll, taking votes from a selection of college football writers, analysts, hall of famers, and more. After putting together a preseason poll leading up to the start of the season, the FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll has been updated to reflect the results of the first full weekend of college football.
This poll, similar to the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25, has Penn State sitting comfortably with a top-10 ranking. But where those other two polls have the Nittany Lions at no. 8, the Super 16 Poll has Penn State sitting at no. 7. That keeps Penn State where it was ranked in the preseason Super 16 Poll.
Here is a look at the brand new Super 16 Poll following the results of Week 1.

I am a voter in the weekly Super 16 poll. In the interest of full disclosure, my ballot is listed below, with a couple of quick notes.
My Week 1 Super 16 Ballot
- Georgia
- Ohio State
- Texas
- Alabama
- Penn State
- USC – This was the big riser for me, as I suspect was the case for most.
- Notre Dame
- Miami – I’m trying not to buy all in on Miami just yet, but that was a solid season opener at Florida.
- Ole Miss
- Missouri
- Oklahoma
- Oklahoma State
- Arizona – this was the one to really go against the grain. Arizona only got 6 total points in this week’s voting. This was the only team that did make the Super 16. I left Tennessee just off my ballot.
- Michigan – I hammered Michigan and Oregon a little harder than most, apparently, after their rougher than expected season openers. I think they can each rocket back up fairly quickly with some wins.
- Oregon
- Utah
