Football scouting director Bill Carroll predicts USC opening day QB in 2024

It’s one of the most important questions facing USC.

We continue our latest conversation with football scouting expert Bill Carroll.

Trojans Wire: All in all how would you grade Caleb Williams career between Oklahoma and USC under Lincoln Riley?

Bill Carroll: I would say a B+. The numbers and individual accomplishments of Williams and Riley were on par with quarterbacks before him under Riley like Hurts, Mayfield and Murray. However, they came up short as the ones before as well, and they didn’t ever make the playoffs together, which is a huge disappointment.

Trojans Wire: Who starts at quarterback next year for USC: Miller Moss, Malachi Nelson, or a transfer QB for 2024 season?

Bill Carroll: I am fairly confident that former four-star quarterback Miller Moss is, at least, the opening day starter in 2024.

Trojans Wire: I asked your co-host Brock Vierra the same thing: Who are your top five most exciting QBs of the past decade?

Bill Carroll: Lamar Jackson Jr., Patrick Mahomes II, Johnathan Paul Manziel, Kyler Murray, and Deshaun Watson are my top five. Honorable mention Caleb Williams and Justin Fields.
