Focused on gaining UFC experience, Loopy Godinez loves record-setting activity

Once the bell rings at UFC Fight Night 198, Loopy Godinez will be in her third fight in 43 days – and she loves it that way.

[autotag]Loopy Godinez[/autotag] knows she has the potential to do big things in the UFC, and she also understands there’s work to be done.

The UFC strawweight prospect is out to gain as much experience as possible, and so far she’s doing a great job at getting it.

Godinez (6-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) is on the verge of breaking the modern record for shortest time between three fights at UFC Fight Night 198. Godinez, 28, fought twice last month, and she returns to the again Saturday to meet Loma Lookboonmee in a short-notice bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Once the bell rings, it’ll be three fights in 43 days for Godinez.

“It’s cool, and it’s nice seeing my name pop up all over the place, but at the same time I’m not surprised (I’m setting the record) because I’m a crazy lady,” Godinez told MMA Junkie in Spanish. “The people that know me, my family, they’re not surprised. They’re like, ‘Of course she’s doing that.’

“Some people are surprised and wonder if I don’t feel anything or if I don’t rest or if I’m made out of steel. But I just love what I do and as long as I can do it, I’m going forward.”

The paydays in rapid succession are nice for Godinez, but she’s more interested in getting minutes inside the octagon. Although the Mexican fighter has shown plenty of promise, she’s in need of experience now that she’s on the big stage.

“How I see it is that I’ve only been training MMA for six years, so I think this is very good for me – the fact that I’m getting in a lot of fights right now to gain that experience,” Godinez explained. “There are girls here who’ve been fighting 10, 15 years, and they’ve also been training since they were kids.

“So I need to play catch up. Right now, whatever they give me, I’m taking. However, once I get a few more fights and I get in the rankings, I think my manager (will hold me back). My manager is doing a great job, and I think they will say, ‘OK, let’s hold off. Let’s do this or that,’ and just be more selective. But right now, I love this. If it were up to me, I’d fight every weekend.”
