Florida’s strength of schedule leads SEC heading into 2023 season

CBS Sports recently ranked each SEC team’s strength of schedule, and Florida’s might the most difficult to get through.

The Florida Gators might be facing the toughest schedule in 2023 of any Southeastern Conference team.

At least, that’s the conclusion CBS Sports came to when ranking each SEC team’s strength of schedule on Tuesday. The Gators have a conference schedule that features Arkansas, Georgia and LSU. Florida State and Utah bookend the schedule and are both expected to be strong in 2023.

Ole Miss, South Carolina and Alabama round out the top four in the strength of schedule rankings, in that order. Georgia has the easiest path after dominating the SEC over the past few seasons and scheduling a weak nonconference slate.

It’s hard to gauge something like this before the teams play because the transfer portal and recruiting allow teams to reinvent themselves year by year. Florida hasn’t shied away from scheduling talented traditionally talented opponents, though, and a predicted up year from FSU might be the biggest overall difference.

Of course, the 2024 schedule isn’t looking too different from this year’s. If Florida’s going to win over the next few years, it’s not going to come easily.
