The Florida football program saw some significant turnover over the past few months, be it from graduating seniors, players entering the NFL draft, or those who seek greener pastures in the NCAA transfer portal.
Billy Napier and Co. have a tall task ahead in filling those voids, and so far have made some headway, but there is still plenty of work to do. With all of this in mind, it begs the question, “How much production are the Gators getting back in 2024?”
ESPN’s Bill Connelly provides the answer to that query in his college football 2024 returning production rankings for all 134 Football Bowl Subdivision schools. His data reveals the overall returning production as well as a breakdown of the offensive and defensive side of the ball with rankings.
The Orange and Blue are ranked No. 32 in overall returning production at 68%, which breaks down into 70% on offense (No. 39) and 66% on defense (No. 41).
On average, teams returning at least 80% of production improve by about 6.4 adjusted points per game in the following season’s SP+ ratings, according to the article. For instance, a team ranked 25th in SP+ last year would get bumped up to around 13th by adding 6.4 points to its rating; lowering the bar to 70% has been enough to boost teams by an average of 4.0 points since 2014.
