The Florida Gators and Eastern Washington Eagles will not meet up on Saturday as planned for their Week 5 matchup. Instead, the game is now tentatively scheduled to be played on Sunday at noon, according to the UAA.
These changes to the schedule come in response to the updated path of Hurricane Ian, a category 3 storm currently sitting off the southwest coast of Florida that’s expected to make landfall midweek. UF canceled classes Wednesday through Friday at the beginning of the week, and now the football game is being pushed back.
Although most of the weather should be gone by Saturday, getting the Eagles into town on Friday and dealing with any fallout from the storm created too many variables to make things work. Moving things Sunday ensures the game still gets played and gives the teams an easier schedule to stick to, weather permitting.
All tickets for Saturday’s contest will be honored on Sunday by the university, and most pre-game events are still scheduled to take place. The one exception is that University Avenue will not be shut down as it usually is on a game day, which means the Gator Walk will look a little different.
ESPN+ and/or SEC Network+ will still carry the game for those looking to watch it.
