Florida will be without its top receiver in the Cotton Bowl

The Gators will be without their top receiver Kadarius Toney in a Cotton Bowl matchup with Oklahoma and will enter the NFL draft.

Florida will be without leading receiver Kadarius Toney in the Cotton Bowl, as the senior announced that he will opt out of the Gators’ bowl game against Oklahoma to begin training for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Toney announced his decision via Twitter on Monday.

“Florida football has been an important part of my life these last four years and has made me a better man, preparing me for life both on and off the field,” he said in his statement. “After conversations with my family and coaches, I have decided to start my training for the 2021 NFL Draft.”

Toney will be sorely missed in Gainesville. His speed and agility make him one of the most unique and dangerous players in the nation.

He saw significant action his first three seasons as a utility player, but he saw his role expand tremendously this year. He became an every-down receiver, and he was UF’s top pass-catcher, statistically speaking (partially due to tight end Kyle Pitts missing three games due to injury).

Toney led the Gators in catches (62), receiving yards (831) and all-purpose yards (1,228). He also had 11 touchdowns in 2020 (10 through the air and one on the ground).

“I am so thankful to have been a part of the Florida program and will be forever grateful for my time in Gainesville, I cannot imagine another program better preparing me for the next step in my career. It’s always a great day to be a Florida Gator,” he said.

Gators receiver Trevon Grimes also announced that he would opt out of the Cotton Bowl on Monday, joining Pitts and Toney as UF pass-catchers to do so.

Toney finishes his Florida career with 1,898 total yards and 13 touchdowns.
