Florida still on wrong side of bubble in Lunardi’s latest bracketology update

Not much has changed in the latest ESPN bracketology for the Gators but that could change on Saturday.

Florida basketball’s NCAA Tournament chances still hang perilously on the edge, with the consensus among the sports media being that the Gators remain on the outside looking in at the Big Dance. Mike White‘s squad has struggled to find any continuity or consistency this season after opening the schedule with six-straight wins, failing to put together a tournament résumé worthy of an invitation.

Some publications like CBS Sports’ bubble watch have Florida as high as the last four in, while USA TODAY Sports has them in its first four out. Sports Illustrated had completely stopped mentioning the Gators until its most recent update, in which it now has UF in the next four out column — the last gasp of hope.

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, who invented the term “bracketology”, gave his latest update and he agrees with SI, keeping them practically unchanged from his last submission among the next four out. The Gators are joined by the Virginia Commonwealth Rams, the Oregon Ducks and Dayton Flyers, with the latter also a holdover from the previous bracket.

The Orange and Blue have a chance to spice up its résumé on Saturday against the Kentucky Wildcats in the O’Connell Center for a Quadrant 1 matchup. A win would help Florida’s NET ranking and would also be a nice feather in the cap to impress the tournament committee. Then the Gators will get their final opportunity to earn a ticket to March Madness with the SEC Tournament starting next Wednesday.
