Tuesday’s NBA draft lottery marked the official start of draft season for the Golden State Warriors. Following the lottery, the Warriors landed with a pair of picks in the first round, No. 7 and No. 14. With the order set, Steve Kerr, Bob Myers and the rest of Golden State’s brass will do their homework leading up to draft day in July.
During the pre-draft process, the Golden State Warriors will likely host a bevy of prospects for workouts and interviews. One of the prospects from the 2021 pool to interview with Golden State is Florida State’s Scottie Barnes. At the NBA draft combine in Chicago, Barnes revealed he’s interviewed with several teams, including the Warriors.

In his freshman season at Florida State, the 6-foot-8 small forward averaged 10.3 points on 50.3% shooting from the floor, 4.1 assists, four rebounds, 1.5 steals in 23.8 minutes per game.
In the latest NBA draft big board from Bryan Kalbrosky of For The Win, Barnes is listed as the No. 5 overall prospect in the 2021 class. In a new mock draft from Cody Taylor of USA Today’s Rookie Wire, Barnes comes off the board at No. 6 overall to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Via Rookie Wire:
Barnes, who was named the ACC Freshman of the Year, averaged 10.3 points, 4.1 assists, four rebounds and 1.5 steals in 24 games with the Seminoles. He emerged as a very good playmaker with FSU and had plenty of flashy passes throughout the season. Because of his defensive ability, and overall willingness to do the little things, Barnes has drawn some comparisons to Draymond Green. He measured a 7-foot-2 wingspan at the combine, which should certainly intrigue teams. His offensive game still needs some work and was very inconsistent as a shooter, only converting on 27.5% from beyond the arc last season. There is a bit of a drop-off between the first five picks of the draft to Barnes here, but his versatility on defense and wingspan should be something that intrigues the Thunder.
During the final stretch of the pre-draft process, the Warriors will likely continue to roll through prospects interviews while building their 2021 draft big board.
