The Florida soccer team is 3-0-2 through five games this season, most recently tying, 1-1, on the road against Kennesaw State on Sunday.
This is the fifth time that the Gators have started the season off without a loss through the first five contests of the year. It’s also the first time it’s happened since 2010. Bohon knows she has a talented team, but she’s not content with just simply good. She wants to be great.
“We’ve got to figure out a little bit of a better way to respond to these away environments because we’ve got to do better than this,” head coach Samantha Bohon said. “We needed more out of this game and we’ve got two more away games ahead of us. We’ll definitely watch film, take a look at this and try and get better from it.”
The year began with a pair of home wins against East Carolina University and Maryland. Then, Florida went to Miami and forced a 0-0 tie before getting back in the win column with a convincing 8-0 victory over Stetson — UF hadn’t scored that many goals since 1999.
Freshman Megan Hinnenkamp leads the team in points with six. She scored two goals against Stetson and netted the only goal of the day for UF against Owls. She was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Senior Alexa Goldberg has kept a fairly clean net, starting all five games and playing the entirety of four. Kennesaw State is the only team to score against so far. Goldberg won the SEC Defensive Player of the Week award for her efforts during the second week of the season.
Up next, the Gators head to Charlotte and Florida State to finish off a three-game road trip that started against KSU. Then it’s time for SEC play. Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky and LSU round out the month.
