The Cotton Bowl is already popping.
During Tuesday’s media session with Oklahoma and Florida, 17 coaches and players spoke. It started at 9 a.m. CT with Lincoln Riley and players like Creed Humphrey and Spencer Rattler following until noon. At 12:30, Florida head coach Dan Mullen began followed by his defensive coordinator, offensive coordinator and selected players until
It took until the very end before things got really rolling.
Florida linebacker James Houston was asked about his thoughts on playing at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and playing against Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl who is familiar playing there. And he delivered.
“… I don’t think we’re too much worried about home field advantage or teams being close to there,” he said. “It’s more about what we want to put on film, what we want to put on tape, going out and showing what the Florida Gators can do. Showing that Oklahoma is a good match-up but they’re not on our level. They’re not SEC. They’re not the Florida Gators. So we should put on a good show.”
Well, well. Let’s play football.
The Sooners won the Big 12 Championship on Saturday inside AT&T Stadium. The program’s sixth-straight and 14th overall since 2000. Oklahoma has been to four College Football Playoffs in the seven that have existed.
Florida is 8-3 on the year with a big win over Georgia, but losses to Texas A&M, LSU and then to Alabama in the SEC Championship game. The Gators defense has given up over 30 points in five games this year and just lost to the Crimson Tide 52-46 on Saturday. They do have one of the country’s most prolific offenses led by Kyle Trask, but star tight end Kyle Pitts has opted-out of playing.
Oklahoma and Florida are scheduled to play on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl. The Sooners and Gators will be sending their players home for Christmas, but the game can be postponed in case of COVID-19 issues.
