Week 5 of the 2024 college football schedule was packed full of action but the Florida Gators were not part of the excitement on the final weekend of September. Instead, Billy Napier and Co. took a break with a much-needed bye to regroup before the next opponent.
Despite the inaction, the Orange and Blue climbed one spot in the weekly CBS Sports re-rank of all 134 FBS schools composed by Chip Patterson, moving up to No. 77. That nestles Florida between the No. 76 Texas State Bobcats and No. 78 Minnesota Golden Gophers.
The Gators are at No. 15 this week in the Southeastern Conference out of 16 member schools, with only the Mississippi State Bulldogs (No. 101) — who they beat two weekends ago in Starkville — ranked lower.

The Alabama Crimson Tide took over the top spot thanks to a 41-34 win in Tuscaloosa over the Georgia Bulldogs, who fell to No. 5. The Ohio State Buckeyes, Texas Longhorns and Tennessee Volunteers fill the space in between, respectively, for this week’s top five.
The Penn State Nittany Lions follow at No. 6, with the Miami Hurricanes, Oregon Ducks, Missouri Tigers and Iowa State Cyclones wrapping up the top 10, respectively.
Up next for the Gators
Florida hosts the UCF Knights on Saturday, Oct. 5 for a Week 6 tangle between two Sunshine State rivals, with kickoff slated for 7:45 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
