Florida hosting recruits in Jacksonville for Georgia game

The new NCAA rules allow Florida to leave tickets for recruits at Saturday’s game against Georgia, but the coaching staff can’t talk to the players.

College football rules are constantly changing, and one of the new recruiting rules says that the home team can leave tickets for players at neutral site games.

Georgia was the home team last year and got to host players then, but this will be Florida’s first chance to use the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party as an in-person recruiting tool. Unfortunately, the visits won’t be too in person…

The rules also say that coaches can’t interact with the recruits at the game, which changes the whole dynamic of things. The Gators are a multi-touchdown underdog coming into this game, but head coach Billy Napier still sees this as a great opportunity.

“It’s definitely a benefit to get guys to the game,” Napier said during his Monday press conference. “Certainly, Georgia was able to do it last year. We’ll be able to do it this year. You don’t get to have any interaction with them when they’re there, but they do get a seat in the stadium.”

While being able to host recruits is certainly a step in the right direction, zero interaction isn’t ideal. There are hopes for more changes in the future, but Napier reminded everyone that Florida will be playing with whatever rules are laid down by the NCAA. The Gators will take full advantage of the new opportunity, though, and host as many recruits as possible.

“I think that list is close to being full,” Napier said. “It will be a good group. I do feel great about the product we have, and our ability to attract some of the best talent in the country. We work hard at it. We’ll continue to work hard at it.”

Many of the class of 2024 commits are on that list. It will be many players’ first taste of a massive rivalry game they will one day play in. There’s nothing quite like the Florida-Georgia game. Hopefully, the recruits are able to soak it all in.
