Recording 642 yards of total offense, the Florida Gators opened eyes with their season-opening 51-35 victory over Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Rebels on September 26.

This impressive showing, plus the Oklahoma Sooners falling at home to the Kansas State Wildcats and the Georgia Bulldogs taking some time to find their footing against the Arkansas Razorbacks, resulted in Florida moving up two spots to No. 3 in the latest Associated Press Poll, released on September 27.

That same day, CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm unveiled his updated College Football Playoff and New Year’s Six projections, and it appears he is not as high on the Gators as some are.

Palm has Florida playing the Mountain West Conference’s Boise State Broncos, coached by Bryan Harsin, in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on January 1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

With the Mountain West having just announced its intent to play an eight-game schedule on September 24, Boise State has yet to begin its 2020 campaign. The Broncos, along with the rest of the 12-team conference, will kick off on October 24.

As for the CFP, Palm has the Clemson Tigers securing the No. 1 seed and battling the No. 4 seed Oregon Ducks in the Allstate Sugar Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, which will also take place on New Year’s Day.

Palm’s projections have the Ohio State Buckeyes earning the No. 2 seed and facing the No. 3 seed Alabama Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual in Pasadena, California.
