Florida football named favorites to land this three-star WR

The Florida Gators football program has been labeled the favorites to land this three-star receiver but an in-state program is lurking.

With Spring practices wrapping up, the focus for many programs now shifts to the 2022 recruiting cycle as June will be the first time in over a year where recruits can visit campuses. For the Florida Gators, Dan Mullen is off to a solid start, landing five commitments already.

But there’s a long way to go and the Gators have offers out to dozens of recruits hoping to reel them in.

Among those recruits is three-star in-state receiver Jayden Gibson, a 6-foot-4-inch, 185-pound Winter Garden native that has a total of 35 offers so far in his recruitment. Programs like Baylor, Miami, Tennessee, Arkansas and Florida have offered the highly-touted prospect. However, it appears as if the Gators might just be in the driver’s seat for this recruitment.

Rivals analyst Adam Gorney discussed Gibson’s recruitment in his rumor mill a few days back, saying that it makes sense for him to land with the Gators where his father and grandfather played. However, there’s a contender lurking in-state as well:

So much makes sense with Gibson ending up at Florida. Both of his parents went there, his father and grandfather played for the Gators plus that coaching staff is making the Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange receiver a big-time priority in this class. It would be no surprise if he ended up in Florida’s class. But Miami is making a serious run at Gibson, too, and if he wants to do his own thing then watch out for the Hurricanes.

While that seems like good news for Florida, we could be in for an in-state recruiting battle between the Hurricanes and Gators down the stretch. Both programs will be making big pushes and this one could get interesting as the summer goes on.
