The Gators lost this top running back’s commitment earlier but are right back int he mix as June approaches.

Florida football lost a step in the recruitment of five-star running back [autotag]Jerrick Gibson[/autotag] out of Bradenton (Florida) IMG Academy, who had previously been committed to the Gators but later rescinded his scholarship acceptance. The good news is that Billy Napier and Co. are still in the mix for the top running back in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

The 5-foot-10-inch, 205-pound rusher recently revealed his top five schools to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, which in addition to Florida includes the Texas Longhorns, Georgia Bulldogs, Tennessee Volunteers and Miami Hurricanes. Gibson has a long history of following the Orange and Blue growing up in the Sunshine State.

“Growing up in Florida, the Gators have always been my favorite team. Playing for them has been a lifelong dream of mine,” Gibson told Fawcett.

The Gainesville native has made three campus visits this year so far, including a stop while at home for the Easter weekend while also attending the annual Orange and Blue game in March.

The rising senior ran for 608 yards and eight scores during the 2022 campaign for IMG Academy. Gibson also recorded some impressive marks in an isolated workout setting, notching a 4.57-second 40-yard dash, a 40.3-inch vertical leap and a 10-foot broad jump following his sophomore year in high school. Additionally, the young athlete carries a 3.4 GPA.

Gibson is rated at five stars and ranked No. 26 overall and No. 1 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has rated at four stars and ranked at Nos. 37 and 1, respectively. The Longhorns hold a pair of crystal ball predictions for him while On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine agrees with a 94.3% chance of Texas signing him; Florida is second at 2.0%.
