Another week gone by means another version of the AP Poll’s top 25.
The Florida Gators snuck by the visiting Charlotte 49ers, 22-7, on Saturday night to move up their stock among the top teams in the nation. Florida shifted up three spots to No. 22 despite the weak win over a non-Power Five opponent.
Without a doubt, the Gators didn’t live up to the No. 25 ranking Saturday night, struggling to put up points in the endzone and relying on place kicker Trey Smack to be the main scorer.
The Gators outranked the Missouri Tigers, Kansas Jayhawks and Fresno State Bulldogs, who are all undefeated so far.
The No. 21 Tennessee Volunteers ended up in front of the Gators once again even though the Vols fell to Florida at the Swamp. If the Gators keep up with the current three-game win streak, then they’ll eventually end up in front of the SEC rival.
The Georgia Bulldogs won yet another game in a row so that means they remain at No. 1 this week. The Bulldogs slaughtered another unfortunate opponent, the UAB Blazers by a score of 49-21 and it doesn’t look like they have much competition until the yearly showdown with the Gators in October.
The Florida State Seminoles fell down a spot after squeezing by the Clemson Tigers in overtime and the LSU Tigers were de-ranked a spot after their three-point win over the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and his squad battled hard with the Seminole but couldn’t convert on their lone overtime chance.
The Florida Gators look ahead to its next SEC opponent Kentucky Wildcats on Sept. 30. The game is set to kickoff at noon EDT and will air on ESPN.
