Florida flips EDGE transfer previously committed to Cincinnati

Following a two-day official visit to the Swamp, former Cincinnati edge rusher George Gumbs Jr. has committed to the Florida Gators.

Following a two-day visit to the University of Florida, former Northern Illinois edge rusher [autotag]George Gumbs[/autotag] Jr. has flipped his commitment from Cincinnati to the Gators.

Gumbs announced his decision on Twitter, which he expanded on in an interview with Swamp247’s Graham Hall. Prior to the announcement, Gumbs was verbally committed to the University of Cincinnati, but he had not enrolled yet.

“(The visit) was good, it was nice,” Gumbs said to Swamp247. “(Coach Mike Peterson) is a real down-to-Earth person. I spent a lot of time with most of the people around, because, you know, it felt like home.”

Gumbs reiterated that he felt at home in Gainesville, and it’s easy to see why. He has the size — 6-foot-4-inches, 242 pounds — and pass-rushing ability necessary to play the JACK linebacker position in Florida’s defense.

The Gators have a few options besides Gumbs to pick from at JACK with Kelby Collins and TJ Searcy entering their sophomore years. Gumbs provides a more veteran presence in the position room entering his redshirt junior year.

He leaves Northern Illinois with 32 career tackles (15 solo), 6.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
