A two-score win in their home opener wasn’t good enough for the Gators to maintain their spot at No. 2 in the USA TODAY SEC power rankings.

Despite beating South Carolina 38-24, Florida fell to the No. 3 spot in this week’s rankings.

3. Florida (No. 2)

Florida’s rebuild on offense is complete. The Gators have a pair of Heisman Trophy contenders in quarterback Kyle Trask, who threw for another four touchdowns in a 38-24 win against South Carolina, and tight end Kyle Pitts, who now has six scoring grabs through two games.

The high-powered UF offense has the nation talking, but its defensive struggles continue to be a limiting factor, leaving many to question how viable a title contender the Gators actually are.

They were supplanted in the No. 2 spot by Georgia, who breezed past an Auburn team formerly in the top 10 behind the solid play of quarterback Stetson Bennett, who made his first career start with USC transfer JT Daniels still not cleared to play.

2. Georgia (No. 3)

Sluggish in a win against Arkansas to kick off the year, Georgia put together a more complete performance to beat Auburn 27-6 and climb into second place behind Alabama. The Bulldogs controlled the line of scrimmage and protected quarterback Stetson Bennett, who threw for 240 yards.

Unsurprisingly, Alabama, who outscored Missouri and Texas A&M by a combined 90-43 in the first two weeks, remains atop the rankings in the No. 1 spot.

The Gators have their biggest challenge so far in the young season this Saturday against Texas A&M. The outcome of that game could shape up the SEC power rankings significantly.
