Florida falls out of top 50 in NET rankings after Vandy loss

As expected, the Gators took a tumble in the NET rankings following their gut-punch loss on Saturday.

Things are looking rough for Florida basketball, which has now lost three games in a row since its epic upset of the Tennessee Volunteers nearly two weeks ago. That win put the Gators firmly back on the NCAA Tournament bubble, only to slide right off with losses at the Kentucky Wildcats and Alabama Crimson Tide, respectively, and now a home loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores.

The Orange and Blue entered Saturday’s matchup at No. 46 in the NET rankings and awakened on Sunday to find itself outside of the top 50 at No. 54. The defeat at the hands of Vandy was Florida’s first Quadrant 3 loss of the season, marring an otherwise perfect bottom end to its postseason resume.

The Gators are now 2-9 in Quad 1 games, 1-2 in Quad 2, 6-1 in Quad 3 and 4-0 in Quad 4 matchups. The victory lifted the Commodores from No. 99 to No. 93 thanks to the Quad 1 win.

Next up for Florida are the Ole Miss Rebels who come to Gainesville to take on the Gators inside the O’Connell Center on Wednesday, Feb. 15. The Rebs are currently ranked No. 126 in the NET. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. EST and can be either watched on the SEC Network or heard on the Gator Sports Network.
