Florida offered First Academy (Orlando) cornerback [autotag]Danny Odem[/autotag] this week, according to Swamp247’s Blake Alderman.
The Gators already have one First Academy defensive back under commitment, three-star safety Devin Jackson, and secondary coach Will Harris extended the offer after visiting the in-state program on Monday.
“This was really a surprise and out of nowhere,” Odem said. “That was my first time seeing him, and later in the day, it was my first time talking to him on the phone. It was a great talk with him. Looking forward to going up there for a visit.”
Odem committed to the University of North Carolina earlier this month, but an SEC offer is a game-changer for a relatively unknown recruit more than a year out from the class of 2026 signing period.
Harris and Jackson have been trying to get Odem to Gainesville for a visit, and he’s now planning on attending Florida’s Week 5 matchup against UCF.
“I’ve been up there once before in the summer with my team for a tour, but I want to go see more,” he said. “I want to get up there and get to know the coaches a little better. Stuff like that.”
Recruiting Summary
Odem hasn’t earned a grade from 247Sports or On3 yet, but ESPN and Rivals both list him as a three-star talent. He’s ranked No. 292 overall on the ESPN 300 and is No. 44 among receivers in the class of 2026.
The On3 recruiting prediction machine favors North Carolina to sign Odem by 83% because of the commitment, but Florida joining the race could change those odds. Jacksonville State (6.6%), Ole Miss (5.7%) and UCF (4.7%) are the other teams in the hunt.
