Florida basketball bounced back from a poor showing out west at the Phil Knight Legacy this week with a pair of convincing wins over the Florida A&M Rattlers as well as the Stetson Hatters back on its home floor. However, those victories have done little to convince the national media as well as the advanced metrics of the Gators’ potential after a 6-3 start.
In his updated bracketology for ESPN, Joe Lunardi still has the Orange and Blue on the steep edge of making the 2023 NCAA Tournament, taking up the very last spot in the “Next Four Out” category — the final line between making it into the dance or sitting out like a wallflower. Florida held the same position in the last update and remains at a nadir after peaking at a No. 9 seed following the season opener.
Meanwhile, the Gators remain voteless in both the AP and Coaches polls while the NET rankings currently have Florida at No. 68 in the country — up one from the opening numbers released on Monday. Yes, it is still very early on in the schedule but [autotag]Todd Golden[/autotag]’s team is already teetering on the brink of postseason play.
Next up for the Gators are the fifth-ranked UConn Huskies, who arrive in the O’Connell Center on Wednesday night for a late 9 p.m. EST tipoff that will be broadcast on ESPN2.
