Todd Golden and the Florida Gators got a lot more than they bargained for on Saturday afternoon inside the O’Connell Center against the Georgia Bulldogs. Despite never relinquishing the lead, the visitors still forced overtime but the home team still prevailed, 102-98.
Despite the win, the Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings saw the Gators fall a spot from our previous update to No. 36 overall. That nestles the Orange and Blue between the No. 35 Utah State Aggies and No. 37 Southern Methodist Mustangs.
The Pomeroy rankings use adjusted efficiency margin — the difference between adjusted offensive efficiency and adjusted defensive efficiency — to rank all teams.
Golden’s gang has a margin of plus-16.61 (down 0.14 points) which means the team is expected to score 16.61 more points than the average opponent. They rank 13th in adjusted offensive efficiency (118.9) but 98th in adjusted defensive efficiency (102.3).
KenPom also has Florida’s overall strength of schedule rated at plus-6.30, which is 39th in the nation; its non-conference schedule rating received a score of plus-1.54 which puts the Gators at No. 125.
Florida next travels to Lexington to take on the Kentucky Wildcats in a rematch of the SEC opening loss for the Gators on Wednesday, Jan. 31. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.
