Florida basketball took a tough loss in Game 3 of the second round of the 2023 Southeastern Conference Tournament, as the No. 9-seeded Mississippi State Bulldogs outlasted the No. 8-seeded Gators in overtime on Thursday, 69-68. The defeat means an early exit from the conference tournament while also leaving the team with a weak résumé for further postseason play.
According to the Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings, the Orange and Blue entered Thursday’s tangle ranked No. 60 and came away three spots lower at No. 63. Florida improved once again from our previous update in adjusted offense, getting bumped up three spots to No. 112 while the adjusted defensive measures remained steady at No. 30.
That is it for Florida basketball for now, pending an invitation to one of the other postseason events such as the National Invitation Tournament or the College Basketball Invitational — the former appearing to be quite likely. Selections for the NIT will be announced on Sunday, March 12, and the competition will begin on March 14 at campus sites. The CBI tips off on Sunday, March 18, in Daytona Beach, Florida.
