Five-star UNC commit reveals how fellow recruit impacted his decision

UNC basketball commit Ian Jackson talked about how Elliot Cadeau affected his decision in recruitment.

Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels currently have the top class in the 2024 recruiting cycle. With four prospects committed and three of those being five-stars, the Tar Heels have a very bright future ahead.

That group is led by five-star recruits Ian Jackson and Elliot Cadeau, with forward Drake Powell also raising his game and earning that fifth star along the way.

But as we await for this class to get on campus, they continue to impress on the AAU cycle. Before this past weekend’s games, both Jackson and Cadeau appeared on For Friends of Friends Podcast where they talked about their recruitments and committing to UNC. On there, Jackson revealed that Cadeau committing to UNC affected his own decision. Here is what Jackson said via Grant Hughes of 247Sports:

“It was big. Going to play with one of the top point guards in my class, whose game is to really get everyone the ball and get everyone involved, was one of the key parts in me committing to Carolina. He makes everyone better.

“From the defensive end, he gets to his spots where he should be and knows when and when not to reach. Offensively, I feel like he takes a lot more pressure off of everybody else. His ability to handle the ball and fight off defenders while going downhill and then find his own shot will definitely help us a lot.”

While both Jackson and Cadeau are a part of the 2024 class, there have been rumors that one or both could reclassify. That smoke is coming more on Cadeau but Jackson hasn’t officially closed the door on it.

Either way, UNC is in line to have some premier talent show up in Chapel Hill.
