Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels’ basketball program received some bad news regarding a top recruiting target in the 2025 class.
Earlier this week, five-star combo guard Darryn Peterson made a big update to his recruitment, cutting his list of 24 offers down to eight schools. And North Carolina was not among those eight schools.
Instead, Peterson will focus on Arizona State, Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, USC and Washington. He’s already taken visits to both Kansas and Kentucky and is planning on seeing USC and Ohio State as well.
But the big news for the Tar Heels is that they are now eliminated for this top recruit and will have to look elsewhere for a guard in the 2025 class.

The 6-foot-5, 195-pound Peterson is ranked No. 3 nationally, the No. 1 combo guard and No. 1 player in the state of West Virginia per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
While UNC did receive bad news in this recruitment, they did make the top six for combo guard Derek Dixon. With no recruits committed in 2025, Davis and his staff will now have to zero in on other recruits at the position to hopefully build da strong class moving forward.
