In a recruiting dead period, Oklahoma’s top commitment is pulling the weight for the Sooners on the trail.
Five-star and No. 1 overall quarterback Caleb Williams has already put together a recruiting weekend that recruits of LSU, Georgia and Michigan have already copied. Williams had some of the top Oklahoma targets including five-star offensive tackle Tristan Leigh, five-star running back Camar Wheaton and four-star offensive tackle Savion Byrd.
Now? Well, he’s going out on the road to recruit himself.
“Also, since we’re having online school and we don’t have football this fall, some of the people I want with me at OU—I’m gonna travel around the country and catch a few games of those guys,” Williams wrote in his weekly blog. “Definitely going to get to see Bryce (Foster), the Mountain, as you all know. Trying to get to one of Scooby’s (Jeremiah Williams) games. He plays outside linebacker, D-end, very versatile. Gonna try to see Camar (Wheaton). Special talent, we worked out a little with his coach and had a really good time together at the Sooner Summit. And since I’ll be in Texas, I might try to get to one of my man Billy’s (Bowman) games, too. I don’t know, but sitting here doing nothing on Friday nights is a non-starter.”
That’s five-star offensive guard Bryce Foster, four-star defensive Jeremiah Williams and Wheaton. Billy Bowman is a four-star athlete committed to Texas.
“It’s basically my own version of Friday Night Lights,” he wrote. “I’ve still got some recruiting to do and coaches can’t get out and go see people and the other recruits, so I’ma do it. That’s what I’ll be doing, unless something changes. Like I always say, try to build a bond and hopefully that bond goes a long way and they become my teammates for the next couple of years.”
Oklahoma currently has 14 commitments in the 2021 recruiting class and is ranked 14th in the country on Rivals.
