Five Reasons that Texas should replace Tom Herman with Matt Campbell

The Texas Longhorns may have missed on the opportunity to bring in Urban Meyer, but they should make a run at Matt Campbell.

When it comes to losses to unranked teams when ranked, Tom Herman leads the nation. That isn’t an accolade that one head coach would want to have. Since 2017, Texas has lost seven games when they are ranked and playing an unranked opponent.

In that same stretch, Campbell has lost a total of three games where his team was ranked. Herman had three such losses in the first two seasons in Austin. On top of that, Campbell has a better win-loss record since Tom Herman was hired at Texas. He is 31-18 in 49 games coached. Matt Campbell is 31-18 in his 49 games coached.

With a less talented team, Campbell has amassed the same record as Herman. Just think about that for a moment. While coaching with less talent at a school where it isn’t easy to recruit, he has produced the same number of wins and the same number of Big 12 Championship game appearances.
