Campbell is winning at Iowa State
Let’s be frank, Matt Campbell is winning at a program that hasn’t produced consistent enough results. This season they have won eight games and enter the Big 12 Championship game at 8-2. Since 2016 (his first season), the Cyclones have won eight games in three of the last four years. The last time Iowa State can say they achieved that, the year was 1978.
Not only have they won that many games in three of the last four years but the Cyclones have four consecutive winning seasons. That hasn’t happened since 1923-27, the last five seasons of the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association before it became the Big Six. It has been almost 100 years since they have seen that level of success.
Iowa State will also be playing in their fourth consecutive bowl game this year. That hasn’t ever happened in their history. Dan McCarney led them to three-straight for the first time ever in 2000-02. If he can win at Iowa State, it is hard to fathom he couldn’t do the same at Texas.
