Five potential landing spots for Redskins CB Quinton Dunbar

The Redskins are willing to trade away Quinton Dunbar, but who’s willing to trade for him?

The Washington Redskins reportedly made cornerback Quinton Dunbar available for trade over the weekend, which will likely lead to the end of his career in burgundy & gold, for the time being at least.

We posited earlier about what the Redskins might hope to receive in a Dunbar trade, assessing that a fourth-round pick might be the best that they can get. But who would give it to them? While a number of free-agent CBs have been signed over the past week, there are still a few teams out there who need help in the secondary, though they might not desire to sign a player to a contract that hurts them now. It may behoove them to spend a mid-round draft pick instead of the $8-10 million it would take to sign a serviceable CB like Dunbar.

These are the four teams we think are most likely to reach out to the Redskins about Dunbar.

Jacksonville Jaguars

In the past year, the Jaguars have traded away both Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye, two of the better cornerbacks in the NFL, both of whom are Pro-Bowlers. It’s safe to say that they could use some help in the secondary.

Dunbar also has a great relationship with former Washington coach Jay Gruden, who is now the offensive coordinator in Jacksonville. The Jaguars are in a rebuilding project at the moment, but giving up a mid-round draft pick for Dunbar, who is only 27, could surely give them hope for the future.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos are making moves this offseason that seem to make me think that they plan on winning sooner rather than later. They traded for Bouye, and they signed Melvin Gordon and Jurrell Casey. Why not add another dynamic player to the mix?

Pro Bowl CB Chris Harris Jr. left in free agency this last week as well, so the Broncos will likely be looking for someone to fill the hole he left, playing alongside Bouye. If Denver were to add Dunbar, that defense would likely go up yet another level under Vic Fangio.

Kansas City Chiefs

The defending Super Bowl Champion Chiefs’ cornerback depth chart leaves a lot to be desired. The Redskins already signed free agent CB Kendall Fuller, and Brashaud Breeland is expected to leave in free agency as well. If KC is going to hope to stay in the hunt for another ring, they are going to need to lean on their defense and hope that the secondary can step up yet again.

A trade for Dunbar could help that happen, as he has as much, if not more experience than the rest of the players at that position.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings took a big hit at the CB position in free agency, with Trae Waynes walking to a new team, and Xavier Rhodes being released. With those two players out of the door, there is a massive hole to fill in the secondary.

Outside of the CB position, the Vikings defense is stout, and they could find a way to compete if the defense is able to hold up, assuming that Kirk Cousins stays at least solid on offense.

The Vikings also have 12 draft picks coming up in April, so parting with a mid-round pick likely wouldn’t hurt them much.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders have been highly active in free agency so far as they look to load up their roster and excite fans in their new home. Earlier, they signed CB Eli Apple to play alongside Trayvon Mullen, but adding Dunbar would be a significant upgrade at a relatively cheap price.
